Please join New Perspectives today at 5 in the Rietveld / Sandberg library New Perspectives is an evening with Mitchell Esajas (The Black Archives), Yolande van der Heide (Casco Art Institute) and Sena Abraham (Rietveld student), dedicated to a selection of newly available titles in the Rietveld/Sandberg library, initiated by the usb_blackstudentunion. Encouraged by Unsettling, the usb_blackstudentunion and student initiatives the library has been expanding its collection in order to broaden the positionalities and perspectives within its bookshelves. Inspired by student recommendations and different organisations such as the Black Archives an extensive literature list has been collected. These books are gradually being added to the library’s collection. To open up a conversation about specific mechanisms of inclusion and exclusion, inherent in many academic institutions and western knowledge production, newly acquired books are being activated through talks and presentations. Mitchell Esajas, co-founder and chairman of New Urban Collective and initiator of The Black Archives will present a book crucial to his activities within The Black Archives. Yolande van der Heide, deputy director of Casco Art Institute, will share her perspective on the processes of unlearning and the importance of the content of a library. Sena Abraham, student of the basic year of the Rietveld Academie, will be rounding up the night with a poetic contribution.
