VANSA operates as a development agency for the visual arts in South Africa, promoting connection, access and innovation in our industry. It was initiated from the need to address historical imbalances in access to opportunities in the visual arts and to attract more public investment and funding for the sector.

VANSA and Picha have been working together on the development of PAN!C (Pan African Network for Independent Contemporaneity), an experimental platform which seeks to stimulate novel and low cost modes for networking, project development and the presentation of work among contemporary art practitioners. Part of the program is about developing/growing a discourse around post-colonial perspectives on art practice and localized practices of engagement and social connectivity to our environment—which are quite particular to this part of the world.
